Children's library: childhood territory
Keywords:
Children's LibrarySynopsis
The first chapter, authored by Greice Ferreira da Silva and Sueli Bortolin, entitled The child, reading and the children's library, inaugurates the dialogue with its readers by guiding theoretical approaches about the child, the act of reading, the mediation of reading, but also seeking to highlight the repercussions of the mediating actions of children's libraries in the formulation of new reading possibilities in childhood. Within the scope of research, studies and undertakings related to reading mediation actions, the second chapter, entitled Plural mediations in the ambience of BIJML (São Paulo), authored by Ivete Pieruccini and Fernanda de Lima Passamai Perez begins to share with its readers , the knowledge built based on research into the Monteiro Lobato Children's Library in the City of São Paulo, created in connection with the cultural political project of the Municipal Department of Culture, under the leadership of modernist intellectuals, writers and literati, with emphasis on Mario de Andrade, Sérgio Milliet da Costa and Rubens Borba de Moraes. In the third chapter, this collection offers its readers an encounter with the results of a study carried out on the Monteiro Lobato Children's Library in the city of Salvador. In their analyses, the authors Raquel do Rosário Santos and Ana Claudia Medeiros de Sousa started from the assumption that there is an interrelationship between the mediation of information and cultural mediation that favors the process of appropriation of information by social subjects, situating reading as a social instance focused on this process of appropriation, which in turn contributes to the strengthening of identity and the development of social protagonism. The findings of Santos and Sousa's study confirm and articulate those presented in the fourth and final chapter of this work entitled Denise Tavares' protagonism revealed in the archival documentation and in the voices of the reading public of the Monteiro Lobato Children's Library, authored by Joseania Miranda Freitas. In his study, Freitas presents the concepts of childhood defended by Denise Tavares, articulating the revelations obtained in the analysis of rich documentation that is part of BIML's documentary collection, and librarian Denise's personal documents, to the testimonies of readers who were trained to read through BIML's mediating activities.
