TRANSCULTURAL WARRANT IN CONTROLLED VOCABULARIES: ELEMENTS FOR A DISCUSSION ABOUT REPRESENTATIVENESS IN KNOWLEDGE ORGANIZATION SYSTEMS

This chapter presents the transcultural warranty and other concepts that, applied
together, enable the construction of equitable multilingual controlled vocabularies, so
that they contribute to the representation, dissemination and visibility of documents in
order to allow and optimize the search and retrieval of information in different geographic
and cultural locations for the generation of new knowledge applicable to society, so that
users feel culturally represented and identified with the vocabulary and its terminological
set, regardless of their culture and mother language. The transcultural warranty seeks
to socialize knowledge and improve its dissemination in a plural and non-excludable
manner, seeking to bring people, cultures, systems and information units together at
different stages, cultural and developmental levels, through the global and plural context
in which we find ourselves inserted.
